Vetted Auto Inspections

Common Questions

Before you book.

The questions that come up most often. If yours is not here, call or text. I would rather answer it than have you guess.

Booking & scheduling

Can you inspect a car at a dealership?

Yes. Most dealerships allow an independent pre-purchase inspection on site. I come to the lot, run the full scope, and report back to you directly. If a dealer refuses to allow an independent inspection, that in itself is worth knowing before you buy.

What if the seller says no?

A private seller or dealer who will not allow an independent inspection is telling you something. It is not always sinister. Some sellers are simply wary of strangers. Still, it is a reason to be cautious. I am happy to speak with the seller directly to explain what the inspection involves, which often resolves it.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Most inspections are scheduled within 24 to 48 hours, and I work 7 AM to 7 PM every day. If you are on a deadline, like a deposit down or a seller pushing for a decision, call or text and I will tell you honestly whether I can make it work.

Can you do a same-day inspection?

Often, yes. Emergency same-day inspections are available when the schedule allows, and are quoted individually based on timing and location. Call or text to check.

I live out of state. Can you inspect a car in LA for me?

Yes, and it is one of the most common requests. If you are buying a vehicle located in LA, Orange County or the Inland Empire from another state, I inspect it on site on your behalf and send you the full photo report within 24 hours. You know exactly what you are buying before you pay, fly in, or arrange shipping. Payment is made in advance by Zelle or PayPal invoice, which accepts PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay or card.

Can you inspect more than one vehicle?

Yes, that is a common request from dealers, resellers, auction buyers and businesses running work vehicles. Multiple vehicles in one visit are quoted at a volume rate. See the fleet and business page.

Pricing & payment

How much does a pre-purchase inspection cost?

Inspections start at $149 for one vehicle, $285 for two, and $140 per vehicle for three or more. The final price can vary with vehicle type, condition and distance, and is confirmed with you before you book. See the pricing page for details.

How do I pay?

By Zelle, or through the PayPal invoice I send you, which accepts PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay and credit or debit cards. Invoice payments include a 2.99% processing fee, and Zelle has no fee. Payment is in full before the inspection. Cash is accepted only when you are on site at the inspection, and is paid then.

What if the car sells before the inspection?

If the vehicle sells before I head out to it, you get a full refund. If I arrive and the vehicle has been sold, is not available, or the seller will not allow the inspection, a $50 trip fee applies and the rest of your payment is refunded.

The inspection

How long does the inspection take?

Typically 45 to 75 minutes on site, depending on the vehicle. Larger or more complex vehicles take longer. Your photo-documented report is delivered within 24 hours of the inspection.

Will you do a road test?

When the seller allows it, yes, with the inspector riding along. Some sellers decline, particularly on higher-value vehicles. If a road test is not permitted, that limitation is noted clearly in the report so you know what could not be assessed.

Do you inspect electric and hybrid vehicles?

Yes. EV and hybrid inspections include a battery health check when the vehicle and seller allow it, along with charging system and high-voltage component checks. Battery condition is the single largest cost factor on a used EV, so it gets specific attention.

Do you inspect exotic, luxury or classic cars?

Yes. These vehicles take longer and the scope expands, because originality and prior restoration work matter on a classic in a way they do not on a commuter car. Pricing is quoted per vehicle.

Do you sell repairs or parts?

No. Vetted Auto Inspections is independent and does not perform repairs or sell parts. There is no incentive to find problems that are not there, and none to hide problems that are.

After the report

What happens after I get the report?

Read it, then call or text me. Going through the findings with you is part of the job, including what is worth negotiating on, what is normal wear for the vehicle’s age, and what would make me walk away.

Can the inspection guarantee the car will not have problems?

No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling. An inspection is a thorough assessment of a vehicle’s condition at a single point in time. It cannot detect a component that fails next month, or a fault that is not observable on the day. What it does is dramatically reduce the chance of a costly surprise.
